Launch of Car-Go! Friday 5th Sept 2014
Chiddingfold’s own affordable transport scheme was officially launched by Surrey County Councillor, Vicky Young on Friday morning, 5th September. In front of invited guests at The Villagers, Vicky expressed her confidence that the scheme would be well-received and greatly used by the village community. She then escorted Faith Reynolds, whose idea it was to create the scheme, on a symbolic first journey.Guests to the launch had been invited from within and without the village and included members of Surrey County Council, Waverley Borough Council and the Parish Council, together with representatives of the Hoppa Scheme, other local transport schemes, Chiddingfold Surgery and Volunteers.
All joined in the celebration of the launch, enjoying homemade cakes, suitably decorated with the scheme’s logo [edible of course] and washed down with a selection of beverages. The symbolic drive was taken in a 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Tourer, which, quite frankly, was the show-stealer. Kindly offered for the occasion and chauffeured by owner Tim Forrest, the car was the focus of everyone’s attention and most guests would have happily swapped places with Faith and Vicky!
Car-Go! is part-funded by Chiddingfold Parish Council and Chiddingfold Community Fund. It is steered by a committee of volunteers drawn from the community, supported by Surrey Community Action and is run entirely by volunteer Duty Officers (journey coordinators) and Drivers.
The scheme will enable those people in the village and surrounding areas, for whom existing transport is inaccessible or inappropriate, to have access to low-cost door-to-door transport between their homes and doctors, hospitals and other appointments, medical and social. The scheme is now fully operational.
Bookings can be made each weekday [10.00 – 12.00]; a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is normally required. The number to call is: 07899 340073
